Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year!
Welcome to Indian Hills. I am looking forward to the return of my students from last year and having the opportunity to get to know a few new ones.
My name is Kathy Jacobson and this is my 14th year of teaching special education here at Indian Hills Junior High School. I have a Bachelor's degree in elementary/special education and a Master's degree in special education from Drake University. Before I had the privilege of teaching in the West Des Moines Schools, I was the CFO and CEO of a management company that owned and operated 5 Burger Kings in the Des Moines area and its suburbs.
We are lucky to have Kim Buntz, Teresa Hershberger and Tasha Hiatt returning as support staff this year. Combined they have 31 years of service in the district.
I will be sending home a communication notebook on a daily basis which include permission slips, study materials, and other important papers in the notebook. Please check your child's backpack or ask them for their notebook on a daily basis.
Tuesday, September 3rd, bowling begins. We will be going to Plaza Lanes every Tuesday afternoon. We will leave school around 11:30 and return to school around 2:15. The cost is $3.00. This covers the cost of 2 games and shoes. Part of the curriculum is to get our students exposed to the community and the world of work. Since our students are too young at this time to be in the work force, our focus in on the community and leisure activities.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. You can use the communication notebook, email, or phone.
